Fwd: Global Project on the History of Leprosy
As
members of the Global Project on the History of Leprosy, we are delighted
to see it mentioned on your discussion group. We would like to draw the
group's attention to a change in URL
http://www.leprosyhistory.org
In addition, readers might be interested to know that there is a
treatment for the disease.
Since the 1980s, multidrug therapy, has led to an 89% reduction of
leprosy over fifteen years. This treatment is extremely effective and is
made available through the WHO, free of charge.
It is imperative that people with
the disease seek treatment without delay in order to minimise any nerve
damage that may occur.
The purpose of our website and
database is to provide researchers with information on the location and
content of leprosy archives around the world. Our aim is to document the
existence of primary resources that will make it possible to tell the
story of the battle both against the disease and also against the stigma
that has been associated with it.
Many thanks
Kind regards
Jo Robertson and Debbie Emmitt
