Sale of Hiroshima Bomb Part Challenged
By SCOTT GOLD
SAN FRANCISCO -- By the time Lt. Morris Jeppson stepped off the B-29 that day, it was clear this had been no ordinary mission: The plane was called the Enola Gay, and the United States had just unleashed atomic power as a weapon.
So Jeppson, like other crew members, grabbed a few keepsakes -- namely, the green and red "plugs" that had deactivated, then armed, the bomb, dubbed "Little Boy." He tossed the thumb-sized switches into his duffel bag.

Political Papers
by Annie Groer
rummaging through an old box of papers in your grandparents' attic, you come across an
invitation to the 1953 inauguration of Dwight David Eisenhower and his not-yet disgraced running mate, Richard Milhous Nixon.
Or browsing in a neighborhood antiques shop you spy single ticket dated March 5, 1868, admitting the bearer to the U.S. Capitol where, in the Senate chamber, lawmakers debated whether to impeach President Andrew Johnson. (The effort failed.)
Perhaps you work for, give time or money to Republicans; at year's end, you receive one of several hundred thousand Christmas cards from George and Laura Bush. (Major donors, staffers or close friends of the First Couple might get the large, suitable-for-framing
version.)
These objects are not merely pieces of American history. To collectors, curators and archivists, each is a bit of political "ephemera," from the Greek "ephemeros" meaning "lasting a day" or "daily."
