Re: Vocative Article

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Interlinears with parsing can be a crutch, but they are also helpful to see how someone was translating something. Obviously this could be nominative for vocative, but I thought it strange that they tagged the article as vocative.

Vocative Article

In Ephesians 5:22 it has Αἱ γυναῖκες , in which I have now seen multiple interlinearies say the article Αἱ is vocative. Every grammar book I have read all say there is no such thing as a vocative article. Are these interlinearies wrong, or am I misunderstanding what the Grammar books are saying? Tha...

Re: Double articles

Thanks for everyone’s feedback. Steve, I am reading through your article. It is very interesting. A better example I found, both are part of enumerations, Luke 24:10 Μαρία ἡ Ἰακώβου Vs. Mark 16:1 Μαρία ἡ τοῦ Ἰακώβου. Steve, it sounds like, from your paper, you’re saying the extra article is based on...

Re: Double articles

Jonathan, thank you for the reply.

I realize it is common. I guess to phrase it differently, what is the difference between:

Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ἁλφαίου

Vs.

Ἰάκωβον τοῦ Ἁλφαίου

Thanks!

Double articles

I have question about double articles, such as what is found in Mark 3:18. It contains καὶ Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ἁλφαίου.

Why are there two articles instead of one? Wouldn’t this be the same as if Mark wrote καὶ Ἰάκωβον τοῦ Ἁλφαίου?

Re: Articular?

Thanks everyone. I can’t remember where I read it. It’s possible I may have just misunderstood. It may have said it must be adjacent, but technically that would not be adjacent.

Articular?

I have read that if the article is not the word before, then the word is not articular. Is this correct? And would that mean that these are not considered articular?

ὁ δὲ Θεὸς

ὁ τε Θεὸς

Re: Same noun different gender / declension

Barry, that is what I figured but wasn’t sure.

Thanks for the clarification.

Same noun different gender / declension

If a noun has a feminine declension and also a masculine declension, are they considered to be different words?

Second, what term describes there association? Ie. Would you say they share the same root? Etc...
