Re: What B-Greek does best

When B-Greek began back in 1992 (see the archives ), it was a mailing list with little competition. In 2011, we moved it to a phpBB forum, and still had little competition. These days, there are plenty of Facebook groups and other groups to discuss biblical Greek. What does B-Greek do best, compare...

Re: Word Suffixes

The Cambridge Grammar of Classical Greek has a chapter on word formation with many examples. Another thought would be to grab a decent NT search engine - Accordance, Logos, etc. etc. whatever you like to use, and search for words of the particular part of speech with the stated endings and see what ...

Re: Participle in Matt. 27:55

Could he simply have meant that it provides further description of the women, that is, it is just generally adjectival ? I am reading it this way: vc Ἦσαν δὲ p ἐκεῖ s γυναῖκες πολλαὶ adv ἀπὸ μακρόθεν v.part θεωροῦσαι In this interpretation, ἀπὸ μακρόθεν is most closely associated with θεωροῦσαι, th...

Re: Participle in Matt. 27:55

Matt. 27:55 Ἦσαν δὲ ἐκεῖ γυναῖκες πολλαὶ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι, αἵτινες ἠκολούθησαν τῷ Ἰησοῦ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας διακονοῦσαι αὐτῷ· Reading one scholar's comment on this text, they say the participle θεωροῦσαι is adjectival and give no further comment. In the larger context of the work, "adjecti...

Re: the referent of the noun πειρασμός in Matt. 6:13//Lk. 11:4

Is there any evidence that what the noun πειρασμός refers to in Matt. 6:13//Lk. 11:4 (καὶ μὴ εἰσενέγκῃς ἡμᾶς εἰς πειρασμόν) is the place where the Wilderness generation put God to the test and is named πειρασμὸς in the LXX (Exod. 17:7 καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου πειρασμὸς καὶ λοιδόρησ...

Re: 1 John 5:7-8

Hi I just wanted to know whether parallels exist (or even can exist) for such a construction and, since a response is not forthcoming, I guess I will just have to give up. Yesterday I did a quick query in the Accordance Greek NT syntax db which tags apposition. Alas they do not tag the appositee (?)...

Re: A papyrus for linguistic fun and profit...

Here is another, short and sweet, and a bit like listening in to one end of a telephone conversation.

Re: Learning Everyday!

A quick search shows there has been some interest in phpbb mobile apps but the website works fine in a browser on a mobile device - I use it that way - so I suspect there hasn't been enough interest or someone available and ready to take on the dev. There are generic forum apps that are compatible w...

Curious minds want to know... which Hebrew grammar failed to satisfy you?
