μὴ κατακαυχᾶσθε καὶ ψεύδεσθε

In James 3:14 I see
μὴ κατακαυχᾶσθε καὶ ψεύδεσθε
I'm trying to understand if "you must not boast and you must not lie" is grammatically valid; that is, if the negation applies to both imperatives.

Barry, Nathaniel, thank you for your input. I'm an amateur translator, and I avoid simply assuming that I understand constructions I don't understand. Thank you for the response; it was helpful. I'm not sure I fully agree, but it expands my thinking. I'd appreciate a bit of courtesy, however.

Matthew 5.3: Why is the article not translated in τῷ πνεύματι?

I checked the various Greek texts, and they all have the article. My impression is that "the spirit" should, by default, translated as the Spirit, yet I don't see that in English translations going back to Wycliffe; in fact, I don't see "the" at all. Any thoughts?
