Re: Summary Table for Beginners

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the table was meant to be simple so it is hard to differentiate when an infinitive is verbal in nature or takes an article and becomes a noun phrase. Nevertheless, its usefulness is just to enable beginners to see at a glance what are the elements associated with verbs,...

Re: Summary Table for Beginners

Thanks Jonathan. Mine was a summary of Mathewson (I should have cited my source) which seems to be saying a similar thing but in different ways. (Infinitives) As nouns they are singular in number (even with a plural "subject," e.g., ἐν τῳ λέγειν αὐτούς), neuter in gender (which is obvious ...

Summary Table for Beginners

358571181_10159316955702657_1427962041639865872_n.jpg I created this summary table for myself as I have not seen a table like that anywhere that would be useful for beginners (if there is one, please point me in that direction). Re: John 3:36

The struggle was because πιστεύων εἰς τὸν υἱὸν has the object in the accusative and not dative like you said. But the second clause, ἀπειθῶν τῷ υἱῷ has it in the dative. Is this significant? Re: John 3:36

πιστεύω often takes the object of belief after the prepositions εἰς or ἐπί , and verbs of obeying, leading and following (such as πείθομαι , ἕπομαι , ἡμέομαι , and ἀπειθέω ) are regularly followed by the dative.[/serif] The struggle was because πιστεύων εἰς τὸν υἱὸν has the object in the accusative...

John 3:36

I am curious about this particular text: ὁ πιστεύων εἰς τὸν υἱὸν ἔχει ζωὴν αἰώνιον· ὁ °δὲ ἀπειθῶν τῷ υἱῷ οὐκ ὄψεται ζωήν, ἀλλʼ ἡ ὀργὴ τοῦ θεοῦ μένει ἐπʼ αὐτόν One question I have is that the son (υἱός) is expressed differently alongside the participles. The first instance is an accusative, used to s...

Re: Introduction

In my first semester, we basically went through the alphabet, o Nouns, η Nouns, το Nouns. The different morphology for the verbs (number, voice, mood, person, tense), and what is aspect. The second semester basically builds on that. It covers verbal aspect, infinitives, particles, and conjunctions....
