Re: John 16.23: ἐμὲ
One last question for this round: I have a question on John 16.23: “καὶ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐμὲ οὐκ ἐρωτήσετε οὐδέν·” I would like to know if the position of “ἐμὲ” lends a particular emphasis to the word or if that is the normal position for a direct object. If there is no particular emphasis, it wo...

I'm desperately trying not to make a joke about him editing the NRSVue from BEYOND THE GRAVE.

Re: Can a verb subordinates participle semantically ?
Apologies for the slow reply.
Cotterell & Tuner are using "semantic" here for describing a skewing between form and meaning in the way that was common for linguistics in the mid-twentieth century, but would definitely not be the case today.

Re: Can a verb subordinates participle semantically ?
The signal to noise ratio at Nerdy Language Majors on FB is such that I rarely frequent it any more, otherwise I would have seen your post there. I generally quite cynical about these kinds of ideas. But there is a technical term in linguistics for something parallel: 'insubordination' involves cons...

Re: English irregular verbs and Greek stem changes
Yeah, these sorts of irregular verbs, along with sound changes, are a foundational element in historical linguistics and determining language family relations.

Re: Prepositions and verbs
I had this tab open for a month meaning to come back to it. Attached prepositions (preverbs) are understudied. I know that Chiara Zanchini (2019) Multiple Preverbs in Ancient Indo-European Languages: A comparative study on Vedic, Homeric Greek, Old Church Slavic, and Old Irish exists, but its not re...

Re: Campbell, Basics of Verbal Aspect, 2nd edition
Campbell is in the small camp of people who think Ancient Greek does not mark past tense on the verb for the aorist and imperfect. He also, as James notes, has a novel view of the perfect, where it denotes what he calls, "heightened proximity" (perfect) and "heightened remoteness"...

Re: Article usage in heaven and on earth (Matt 6:10, 28:18)
Yeah, I think one of the challenges in a lot of Greek grammar writing is that the full diversity of how paradigm alternations function is never really engaged with and it seems like something that should be quite transparent. From the larger picture, these distinctions feel like prototype effects. I...

I think it'd be best to err on the generous side. More books, better!

It's available at Peeter's AAR/SBL booth this year. I'm sure it'll be available online soon.
