Re: Erasmian Pronunciation Variants

P.S.I uploaded some time ago a few audio recordings which I made (some NT and OT passages), as samples, at this address:

Just in case...

Re: Erasmian Pronunciation Variants

Sorry... you can see now my webpage in English. Regarding your comment, please check my omicron with my omega (see my omega audio sample ὠκεανός ); I think this would illustrate the difference I make between the two - just the length/duration. Comparing my ὀρθόδοξος (or, rather, my ὀρθογράφος and ὄρ...

Re: John 10:10b understanding the clauses

I think it should be significant that the two substantives affected by this discussion ( νομὴν and ζωὴν ) are related to two different verbs: εὑρήσει and ἔχωσιν . If the second ἔχωσιν were intended to refer to νομὴν , wouldn't it be more reasonable to use the other verb instead, and put the phrase l...

Re: Erasmian Pronunciation Variants

Hi Christopher, Please do not be disappointed; I know how hot discussions on this topic may become and I hope we do not get there. English is foreign language to me, so I feel uneasy to explain so subtle nuances to a native English speaker: you would "beat" me very easily. Instead, how abo...

Re: Prayers in Ancient Greek

I also like this idea, and it would be, I think, even more interesting if the contributors also add the audio recording of their own reading for each text. I imagine that recording and listening to one's own reading could be very useful to controlling/improving the fluidity and consistency of pronun...

Re: Erasmian Pronunciation Variants

Hi Christopher, The two of us clearly use different standards/filters in judging the sounds that we hear/produce. Opinions on this subject cannot be reconciled, I believe, unless we refer to the same phonetic system. Examples are normally given by every manual where pronunciation is discussed, makin...

Re: Erasmian Pronunciation Variants

Good to hear from you, Christopher; thank you for your kind comments. Regarding the "mix" that I use, it is indeed erasmian, basically, but I have adopted the sounds the modern Greeks use today. (I followed the tutorial named "Filoglossia" as a guide). Not all of today's language...

Re: Erasmian Pronunciation Variants

Hello Christopher, Since you asked (and I too am one who favours the principles upon which Erasmus built his pronunciation system), please find here (https://www.vasilestancu.ro/pronunciation.html) the description (with some audio recordings) of the system I am using. I am an autodidact, so please r...

Re: 2 Cor. 7:1 active vs middle/passive

... καθαρίσωμεν ἑαυτοὺ ς ἀπὸ παντὸς ... aorist active instead of middle or passive? ... I imagine the difference in meaning could be like the difference between 'wash your hands' (as somewhat reflecting the middle voice in Greek) and 'wash that dirt off your hands' (virtually equivalent to active v...
