Re: LSJ abbreviation

Do you have a word where this abbreviation occurs? Yes, sorry. Should have done that before. Here is the one from this morning (in bold). προορ-ίζω , A. determine beforehand, “ἡμέραν” Hld.7.24 ; predetermine, predestine, “ἡμᾶς εἰς υἱοθεσίαν” Ep.Eph.1.5; “τι γενέσθαι” Act.Ap.4.28; τινὰς συμμόρφους (...

LSJ abbreviation

I'm doing some word studies in the GNT and keep running across the abbreviation "Hld.x.xx" in LSJ on Perseus (where x.xx is a set of numbers). I've searched all over and can't figure out what this means. It's not in the Perseus abbreviation list or in the list in the LSJ scanned into Googl...

That's really what I'm after here. I see Jesus and Paul (Thanks, Mark! ) as driven by an obed...

Volunteering in the NT

Hi all, I'm trying to find a word for "volunteer" / "volunteering" in the NT (or ancient Greek). Via Perseus, the best I can find is ἀπαράκλητος, LSJ, "unsummoned, volunteering" and ἐθελοντήρ "volunteer". Neither of these appear in the NT, so I am working on t...

Daniel Goepfrich

Hello, I am Daniel Goepfrich - husband, father, pastor, and teacher. I started learning NT Greek with Machen in 1990 as a high school student. This allowed me to test out of first year Greek in Bible college (because they also used Machen). I have taught using Mounce and consider myself to be beyond...
