Re: Learning prepositions
Very helpful everyone. Looks like I'll be learning the cases. I find it easier to learn a short idiomatic phrase, such as μετα ταυτα, δια τουτο, ἑως οὑ, κατα Mαρκαν, κτλ., which one meets fairly frequently when reading the GNT, and from which one can work out the case used. Also remember, i...

Re: Is it ever too early to parse?
Here's another broad question. Is it too early for me to spend time trying to read/parse/translate one of the easier NT books? I know the answer will be subjective, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. - - - snip snip - - - I don't want to get ahead of myself. At the same time I wonder if trying to ...

Re: NT Greek word search or crossword puzzles?
I am wondering if anyone knows of some "fun" helps to learn NT Greek vocabulary, at least beginning vocabulary. Obviously, I have flash cards. But I'm tired of making flash cards. I don't know what is obvious about flash cards. I have never used them. Perhaps the most rewarding means I ha...

Re: NT Greek and Careers
Here is my general background: Bachelor of Science degree (geology, with anthropology minor). and am currently working a contract job that is not degree-related (but science-related). Exciting? I know, it certainly is! I guess my question is: if I wanted to go to graduate school what could I do tha...

Re: A Model for a New Koine Syntax?

Re: Best Intermediate Greek Syntax
I've also always thought that an alternative to producing a new Koine Grammar would be to produce a supplemental sections to Smyth's 'A Greek Grammar,' giving Koine subsections to the already existing sections (Smyth is also in Public domain). Yes, that would be great - we could use BDR to identify...

Re: Heb 2:5-9 in NIV - αὐτόν as "them"
How about we ignore the comments in Hebrews, though? What about just the quote from the Psalm? Is it not acceptable in its own context to render the pronoun in the English plural? Regards, Jason Hare What we need is either 1) to be less hung-up about gender roles 2) if someone is so touchy about in...

Re: Best Intermediate Greek Syntax
It seems to me that there is a real need for an up-to-date intermediate grammar that gets at how Greek works, and that avoids categories based merely on English translation or on context. To be sure, we need a reference grammar as well http://hypotyposeis.org/weblog/2013/01/major-desideratum.html ,...
