Another interesting example of ἰδοὺ:
In informal oral English, we sometimes say "look" for this kind of thing:

"Look, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth ..."

James 5:7 οὖν

I'm trying to understand what thought is continued with οὖν in James 5:7. Robertson suggests: Be patient therefore (μακροθυμησατε ουν). A direct corollary (ουν, therefore) from the coming judgment on the wicked rich (5:1-6). But that seems u...

Re: SBL - who will be there? Who is doing what?

I'd also be interested in the highlights - what presentations people find interesting and useful, how Jeffrey Gibson's elister get-together goes, etc. Feel free to post anything interesting here ...

And James, what are the hot books this year?

SBL - who will be there? Who is doing what?

Who will be at SBL this year? What will you be doing there? (I won't be there, I'm just curious ...)

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

Re: 1 Cor 3.5

The final phrase needs some clarification and I'm wondering how others take it. What is the antecedent of ἑκάστῳ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I read it like this: διάκονοι δι' ὧν ἐπιστεύ...

Re: Preparing texts for study

Looking back, I really wished we had run the group differently. What we should have done is asked each other questions IN ANCIENT GREEK, about the Greek text, and answered the questions in Greek. I have since done this face to face, on the phone, through Skype, and via audio/video exchanges. I thin...

Re: How many participles are in Jude 1:20-23?

By the way, lining this out by phrase makes it easier to read:

Re: How many participles are in Jude 1:20-23?

I see seven participles: present active participle present middle participle perfect passive participle

Re: Preparing texts for study

Let me say more. I'm currently going to a church that is located next to Duke, and at lunch during a recent men's retreat, I found myself surrounded by 5 people who know Greek. We discussed the possibility of a Greek reading group with a spiritual focus - a Bible study for people who like to read th...
