Re: Greetings χαιρετε
As far as Lexicons go, I've got the medium Liddell Scott, Harper's Analytical Lexicon, and Taylor's Analytical Lexicon of the Septugint. I've got UBS copies of the New Testament and Septuagint. Ancient Greek is great but I'm thinking before long I might be concentrating on Hebrew, we'll see. You sh...

Re: τῆς δευτέρας μου παρουσίας
In Justin Martyrs work I found at least one instance of δευτεροσ + παρουσια Justin Martyr.pdf Regards Jean Thank You. I was thinking about this again this morning and taking into consideration that παρουσία without qualification was used in the NT for the central eschatological event. At some point...

Re: τῆς δευτέρας μου παρουσίας
If I remember correctly, Theological Dictionary of the New Testament indicates that it was first Justin Martyr who used the phrase “second coming.” Which dictionary was that? Was it under the word παρουσία? parousia, S 3952; TDNT 5.858–871; EDNT 3.43–44; NIDNTT 2.887, 898–903, 907, 932–934; MM 497;...

Re: τῆς δευτέρας μου παρουσίας
I did a quick check for δευτερ[α-ω]* AND παρουσ[α-ω]* in my (rough) PG-Migne Textcorpus. The result is added as an attachment δευτεροσ + παρουσια.pdf. Maybe this will help you. If you would like me, to make a list of specific Migne-Texts, please let me know. That would be some more work, but I woul...

τῆς δευτέρας μου παρουσίας
Today I was reading in Oecumenius commentary on the Apocalypse and ran across the expression τῆς δευτέρας μου παρουσίας. I wondered which Father used this first. Justin Martyr used the expression. Couldn't find it in the Apostolic Fathers. It appears many times in NT Catenae which tells me nothing. ...

Re: How to know when your seeing a Greek Grammar Rule
Forget Mounce or any of the other specifically NT oriented beginning texts. I haven't kept up with all the innovations in language pedagogy. It seems unfortunate that a student who just wants to read greek texts with comprehension is required to first become a grammarian and eventually to set aside...

Re: How to know when your seeing a Greek Grammar Rule
And FWIW, you may well forget the names of the rules but still internalize them. Lots of reading in Greek is more important than memorizing all the rules. Which raises an important question for a beginner. Is there an alternative path to language competence which bypasses the rule learning activity...

Re: Biblical words are nolonger referential?
... I'm not sure if it leads to thinking that the words are less referential. Perhaps my current preoccupation with early church fathers makes me aware of ontological implications of referential language in the bible. Non-referential has a simple meaning. There is nothing there. Cognitive Frames ar...

Re: Biblical words are nolonger referential?
In looking over Framing the Frames: A Theoretical Framework for the Cognitive Notion of “Frames of Reference” now after years have passed I don't see what the problem was with it initially.
