Re: Linking the Phrase ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι With the Words in the Context
The word παρουσία seems to be referring to Josephus’ coming to the people in Tiberias, and the courier was to report this to Tiberians while Josephus was still on his way. Otherwise, it could be argued that the courier was sent after Josephus’ arrival to report Josephus’ presence. "Ὁ δ᾿ Ἰωάννη...

Re: Linking the Phrase ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι With the Words in the Context
At first, I tough that Τιβεριάδι is a form of the proper name of the city Τιβεριάδος. (In such case, the phrase ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι would mean “in [the city of] Tiberias.”) But H. St. J. Thackeray’s translation renders Τιβεριάδι as “people of Tiberias.” William Whiston’s translation reads the same. Is ...

Re: Linking the Phrase ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι With the Words in the Context
Thank you for the clarification. I can see now that the phrase can be properly understood as grammatically linked with σημανοῦντα. The text is apparently speaking about the report of Josephus’ coming to Tiberias while he was still on his way, rather than to his presence there after his arrival. Thi...

Re: Linking the Phrase ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι With the Words in the Context
προπέμψας ἄγγελον τὸν τὴν ἐμὴν παρουσίαν τοῖς ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι σημανοῦντα. "Having sent a messenger who will announce my arrival to the ones in Tiberius['s household]." The location of the phrase "τοῖς ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι" between the article and its participle appears to tether it to...

Re: The First Woman to Translate the ‘Odyssey’ Into English
'Complicated' which virtually means 'Bastard' or 'Bitch' nowadays when describing a person, is hardly an apt epithet for the heroic Odysseus. Wilson claims she looked beyond dictionary entries, but this meaning for πολύτροπος is given in LSJ. Her boldness is to tag a man with it. Your claim as to t...

Re: Mk.14:4,5
If John was in the thick of it, he was relating a part event that Peter wasn't an ear-witness to. I fear that taking this position is wrapping an assumption in another assumption. If Matthew and Mark are taking a bird's eye view, they are providing several non-essential details. We don't have any w...

Re: Mk.14:4,5
I'm not convinced that all of these accounts are describing the same event, though they could be. If we assume they are parallels, perhaps they provide some measure of support to the idea that Mark was recording what the crowd said, although he doesn't provide the specific person who gave the uttera...
