Re: Beginning Greek Video Lectures on the Web

Peter,

I only spent a few minutes browsing the videos. I also located similar lectures by Bill Mounce over his text at http://www.teknia.com/newtestamentgreek1.

Beginning Greek Video Lectures on the Web

For those who are just beginning their study of Greek and especially those using David Black's primer, there is a web site that you might find useful. The link is http://thebible.net/video/greek/ . It consists of 35 prerecorded lectures on NT Greek and appears to walk through Black's text. I don't k...

Re: Metalanguage: pedagogical nuisance or necessity?

Randall, I do get excited by the possibilities of true fluency in ancient Greek. I also believe what you say about the efficiency of the methods you employ. My question is how does someone maintain and continue to grow in fluency? For example, if a person participates in one of your immersion course...

Re: Didache, in Greek, on Youtube

I'm thankful for members like Nikolaos, Mark Lightman, Louis Sorenson, and others who take the time to record materials like this for the benefit of others. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems that colleges and universities are turning out fewer and fewer Classics majors. I've also witnessed first hand ...

Re: Greek Composition

I would consider the English-to-Greek exercises, which seem quite common for beginning students, as preparatory for later composition. To me, I would think of composition as - write a letter to a friend detailing your vacation, write a review of a play you've watched, etc. By what I'm hearing, true ...

Re: Greek Composition

So is learner early in their studies (first or second year) better off focusing on reading than doing composition? I've seen that a lot of the primers have English to Greek exercises. Are these ineffectual?

Re: Pronunciation of Consecutive Identical Vowel Sounds

Jesse, The phenomenon of consecutive beginning-ending vowel sounds is an oddity in a language otherwise concerned with euphony. I too have began using Randall Buth's pronunciation. Whenever I've encountered the vowel issue, I insert a short pause. It does break the cadence of speech, but at least I ...

A Greek Morphology

For those of you who might be interested, Randall Buth has a new work available, A Greek Morphology . It can be found at the Biblical Language Center web site - http://www.biblicallanguagecenter.com/books-products/koine-greek/. I haven't ordered it yet, but probably will. If anyone ends up purchasin...

I appreciate the update, Jonathan. You just made my decision for me. I'll be ordering the larger edition. Thank you as well, Mark, for the Youtube video.

Re: Why not start with modern Greek?

Jonathan,

I wondered the same thing at some point in my studies. Someone much more familiar with Modern Greek than I will have to chime in, but I would suppose that it comes down to just how different the two are.

Kindly,

Wayne Kirk
