Re: John 7:35 - the 'diaspora of the Greeks'

When you continue on with his quotation in the homily, it does not inherently inspire confidence that he has access to some great secret now lost to history: What is, "the dispersion of the Gentiles"? The Jews gave this name to other nations, because they were everywhere scattered and min...

Re: John 7:35 - the 'diaspora of the Greeks'

...not sure what your point is here... Thanks for the feedback! Sorry. Perhaps my verbosity overshadowed my points to the point of making my post seem pointless. Excuse me for making a proverbial mound out of a mole hill. Honestly, after compiling all of the examples, it just seemed worthwhile to t...

John 7:35 - the 'diaspora of the Greeks'

If the common understanding of John 7:35 is correct, the reference to 'ἡ διασπορά τῶν ἑλλήνων ' (literally 'the diaspora of the Greeks ') presumably refers to the Jewish diaspora among the Gentiles ('dispersionem gentium' in Latin), despite John's use of a seemingly unprecedented phrase. I've failed...

Re: Blue Letter Bible formatting - circumflexes with diaereses

OK. I reported it on their website. Notably, it does not appear to be an issue on iOS.

Re: Blue Letter Bible formatting - circumflexes with diaereses

I had a quick look and cannot see an example. Can you point me to a specific case ? I am wondering if there is a font issue of some kind. Also, have you asked them about it ? Thx D Actually, now that I'm looking closer, it seems to ONLY be an issue in their LXX text. Their NT text seems to be witho...

Re: Blue Letter Bible formatting - circumflexes with diaereses

It's not correct so there can be any number of reasons why it's wrong. Thanks. I'm less concerned about 'reasons why it's wrong' (since I know why it's wrong) and more concerned with the origin of the error, which is very consistent in BLB. It makes copying and pasting from that website problematic...

Blue Letter Bible formatting - circumflexes with diaereses

Can anyone explain why the formatting in Blue Letter Bible includes a diaresis underneath circuflex accents in dative plurals? - i.e. –οῗς

Re: Colors in Ancient Greek

You might put ὠχρόν "pale" with μήλινον or even left of λευκόν, since it is a bridge between yellow and white. “τὸ δὲ ὠχρὸν γίγνεται λευκοῦ ξανθῷ μειγνυμένου” I've moved some things around. The yellow spectrum now grades from μήλινον to θειῶδες to ὠχρόν. I'm puzzled by the LSJ reference t...

Re: The 'Lucian Pronunciation' of Koine Greek

There he says, “ τρέχε! ” over and over again, in a variety of ways (i.e. " τρέχε ταχέως! "). Now, as a practitioner of Erasmian pronunciation, I imagine he has absolutely no compulsion to palatalize ‘ χ ’ > [ç] before a back vowel. Sorry, I meant to say FRONT vowel, not BACK vowel!
