VIDEO for the Biblical Language Center summer fluency/pedagogy workshops

Post by Benjamin Kantor »

Randall Buth already posted about this, but I thought I would add the video explaining the upcoming fluency/pedagogy workshops with Biblical Language Center, complete with me talking to a cartoon in Koine Greek :)

So your new curriculum is based on the Colloquia?

In short, yes :)

The longer answer is that the colloquia are one of several main driving forces that help shape the material, but the colloquia are probably the most significant of these several driving forces. I outline five main principles here:

That's excellent. I've been using them (I have both volumes of Dickey) for the Latin. The one thing to be careful of is that occasionally you find expressions which are literal translations of the source language rather than anything idiomatic in the target language. Since most of the colloquia are Greek to Latin, though, it should be less of a problem for what you are doing.

Thank you! Yes, that's an excellent point and one I need to be reminded of. There have actually been times where I forgot about that and then later realized ... ohhh, maybe that is what was going on. The fact that they might have even been composed in parallel from the beginning leads to some interesting factors to consider. Nevertheless, as you note, despite all of this they are still a great source of material.
