W.J. Hickie, Greek-English Lexicon to the NT

Post by cwconrad »

Logos is offering this 1911 lexicon at Community Pricing for a suggested price of $5.00. Does anyone know of this work and whether it might be worth $5.00? I am aware of Hickie as a translator of Aristophanes -- and apparently he is best known thus. Baker Books has reprinted this lexicon in 1965 and 1971; I know absolutely nothing about it.
οὔτοι ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς πάντα θεοὶ θνητοῖς ὑπέδειξαν,
ἀλλὰ χρόνῳ ζητέοντες ἐφευρίσκουσιν ἄμεινον. (Xenophanes, Fragment 16)

I like that lexicon. I used to carry a copy of it around, from the seminary library, when I was in an elementary Greek class. I liked to carry either Souter's little lexicon, or Hickie, althernating so that someone else could get to use it too. I liked them more than the Barclay Newman lexicon.

Thanks for reminding me of it.
