Aesopica

Post by Barry Hofstetter »

Looking for some fun extra-biblical Greek reading to sharpen your skills? I often recommend Lucian of Samasota (start with the True Histories), but then there is also Aesop!

Some of you are probably aware of this website:

Aesop is good because the stories are short and filled with lots of fun vocabulary, which can function as a review as well as learning words you never knew were in the language. I'm reading the verse versions by Babrius and then the prose versions in Chambry. Enjoy (should you decide to do this)!

Notice also for Latin enthusiasts Phaedrus is included.

One hundred percent with you on the Aesopica - nice way to start a morning given the length. Also amusing trying to work out what on earth the point of some of them is.

I recently discovered a book giving the Greek of Aesop as well as some of the Bible along with a German translation, for those of you with that kind of predilection
