How many participles are in Jude 1:20-23?

How do I work out the meaning of a Greek text? How can I best understand the forms and vocabulary in this particular text?

How many participles does Jude 1:20-23 have? Is it nine? I know that Greek is a particple loving language. That is the passage we are covering in Prayer Meeting tonight. Pastor Lon

I see seven participles:
  • present active participle
  • present middle participle
  • perfect passive participle

Adding in coloring for the other verbs:
  • aorist active imperative
  • present active imperative

By the way, lining this out by phrase makes it easier to read:

Participles:
  • present active participle
  • present middle participle
  • perfect passive participle
Other verbs:
  • aorist active imperative
  • present active imperative
Note that there's only one finite verb in this whole first part:

LEB retains the sense of the participles in its translation:

But you, dear friends,
by building yourselves up in your most holy faith,
by praying in the Holy Spirit,
keep yourselves in the love of God,
looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
