Morphologies?

Post by Jonathan Robie »

Are there morphologies that we should be considering?

Is this still worth converting?

A philological introduction to Greek and Latin for students (1883)
Author: Baur, Ferdinand Christian, 1792-1860; Paul, C. Kegan (Charles Kegan), 1828-1902

I assume that the German is less accessible for most people ... if you had to pick between the German original and a translation, which way would you go, and why?

It's worth converting, and the English is preferable in this case.

I'm afraid this work is quite out-of-date. For example, it claims that the aorist sigma ending comes from the verb to be (e.g. ἐσ- τί), which no one has believed for a very long time.

Are there any morphologies that are more or less current, but old enough to be out of copyright (before 1923, or author died at least 70 years ago?)

For morphology, I get by using Smyth. If one is interested in the Koine period morphology, no reference will be up-to-date unless it takes into account the papyri that was published throughout the 20th century. So ideally one would want Gignac or maybe Mussies. But yeah, the copyright cut-off is rather unfortunate for us.
