There are other words ending with -μαχεῖν with other prefixed elements are used of legal preceedings. Not specifically this one with θηριο-.
Γελᾷ δ' ὁ μωρός, κἄν τι μὴ γέλοιον ᾖ
(Menander, Γνῶμαι μονόστιχοι 108)
