Mt.28:14 ἀκουσθῇ τοῦτο ἐπὶ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος

Is the Greek verb ἀκούειν (BDAG 2) here referring to the entire trial, or just to the chance that they will have to speak in their own defence (what just one person says in their own defence, possibly with the aid of counsel and witnesses)?
