With φῶς being from (or closely related to) φάος (cf. Aeolic φαῦος), and the ἐπιφαύσκειν being the Attic form of the verb and ἐπιφώσκειν being the Ionic form of the same verb, what grounds is there for separating them into two different dictionary entries?
Do I understand correctly that ὑποφώσκειν is the first hint of light glowing on the horizon, διαφώσκειν is as the glow continues to grow and lights up the sky and ἐπιφώσκειν is when the first rays of light breech the horizon and shine upon the land?

Of the three alternative suffix pronouns, only υποφώσκει seems to have survived into (literary) Modern Greek.Genesis 44:3 wrote:τὸ πρωὶ διέφαυσεν καὶ οἱ ἄνθρωποι ἀπεστάλησαν αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ ὄνοι αὐτῶν
