Dear Jody,

HH: I do not think so. The NT Greek uses the definite article in many
situations where we do not use one in English. It is often called the
generic article, which distinguishes one class from another. _Greek Grammar
beyond the Basics_ (p. 227) says that it categorizes rather than
particularizes. So the context here would suggest that it is not proper for
women to teach men or exercise authority over them, but it is appropriate
for women to engage in childbearing. The inappropriate categories of
activity are replaced with the appropriate category. Women fell into
transgression, but they will be saved, will experiuence their salvation,
through childbearing, if they remain in faith and love and sanctification
with prudence.
Yours,
Harold Holmyard
