The doctoral Greek exam I took had three parts:
Greek NT
LXX
Apostolic Fathers

We were not allowed to use a lexicon, but wer were
allowed to prepare a set of texts and submit a list
of them. Then we got selections form waht we
submitted plus an extra one. The surprise one from
the LXX was not hard except that it had words for
baker and such in it, which are not that common in
biblical Greek. I don't think we were expected to
all GNT vocabulary but I think it's reasonable to
learn all the vocabualry that occurs ten times or
more. ONce one has learned all the words ina decent
beginning grammar (mine was Machen), you know most of
htose anyway.

My doctoral level Hebrew work was similar. One
prof felt tht non-OT studetns should know all the
Hebrew words that occured 40 times or more, while OT
majors should know all the words that occur 10 times
or more.

What really impressed me as the modl to strive for
was when I had George ladd for NT theology. He cuold
sight read any place in the GNT without a pause.
