1st Corinthians vs 15:29
..EI hOLWS NEKROI OUK EGEIRONTAI..

It says in a couple of lexicons I looked at that hOLWS plus a negative means 'not at all'. Is this a real definition of the meaning or is it just a good way to translate in into english?

The only other NT example I could find is in Mathew 5:24, and 'not at all' seems to be a good translation.

The reason I ask is because I was trying to figure out the meaning of this particular phrase with my initial translation before I checked the lexicon 'If the dead are not wholly raised'. If it just means 'not at all' then the meaning is clear, but otherwise I need to try and figure out if if wholly is meant in a quantitative manner (Ie - the sum total of all the dead are raised, and if this is the case why not just say all the dead) or if it has a qualititaive meaning (Ie - it is making some statement about how they are raised, in wholeness (whatever that may mean)).

Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Thanks for any help,
Charles Granby
