Dear Richard,
Do you not mean 6:49?
BTW,
6:47 EN MESWi QALASSHS
6:47 EPI THS QALASSHS
6:49 EPI THS QALASSHS
The Matthean account, 14:22-33:
14:25 EPI THS QALASSHS
14:26 EPI THS QALASSHS
14:28 EPI TA hUDATA
14:28 EPI TA hUDATA
You will notice that the Matthean account incorporates Peter's part. So your
friend will have to account for both Jesus' and Peter's "walking on the water."
That definitely does not fit the scenario your friend is portraying.
Furthermore, BAGD, under EPI with the genitive 1. place...on, upon, answering
the question of "where?" EPI THS GHS (on the earth) Mt. 6:10, 19; 9:6; 23:9; Mk
6:47 al EPI THS QALASSHS, upon the sea. BAGD also includes Chrysostom, Lucian,
Artem., and Mt 14:26; Mk6:48f: Jn 6:19.
En Xristwi,
Rev. Bryant J. Williams III
