Possibly
Paul considered εθελοθρησκία a derivative of εθελόθρησκος (which is not found in my TLG),
and if there
was such a usage in the everyday oral speech of the early Christians,
Paul’s
option for spelling would be the most correct.
A similar
case has to do with ειδωλολατρία,
which is truly a derivative of ειδωλολάτρης
and not of any nonexistent
verb as ειδωλολατρεύω.
Of course,
a linguist’s comments would be mostly desired in this subject.
