Fairly often llist folk ask for Greek texts outside of the the NT and
related literature which can help them "grow" their Greek skills. I am
using as an intermediate text this year Hayes and Nimis's *Lucian's A True
Story." Greek text, from the Loeb edition, running vocabulary, commentary
(mostly grammatical, and aimed toward the student), general glossary and
glossary of verbs with weird principal parts. Not only is it a fun read in
it's own right (It is considered the first "science fiction" story, it makes
fun of lots of classical figures, et al.), but the narrative is
straightforward and you'll see some common NT vocabulary in different
contexts. I'm just starting it with my students now, and heavy use
sometimes reveals flaws, but overall this seems just what the Greek doc
ordered for a good workout.
