Just in case anyone else besides Ted is interested in this, here's some data

Matthias is mentioned by Iraeneus (Her 2.20.2.5). Then again in Eusebius (EH 1.12.3
and Epiphanius 1.20. There is s a tradition that he preached in Judea and was stoned
to death by the Jews. An early apocryphal Gospel bore his name (cf. Eusebius E.H.
3.25.6; Clement of Alex. Misc. 2.163; 7:318) and he was later believed to have
suffered martyrdom (Menolgium Graece 3.198).

If I were you, I'd check to see what the Anchor Bible Dictionary has on him as well
as, say, Fitzmyer's commentary on Acts in the Anchor Bible.

Yours,

Jeffrey
