With much greater tact and diplomacy, Dr. Carl
Conrad has expressed my opinion exactly. If rabid attacks on persons
or ideas presented are permitted, then those who espouse novel approaches to
understanding particular passages or words will be stifled from presenting
them for fear of belittlement, and sometimes it is the novel approach that gives
the phrase or sentence its original liveliness and spirit. Remember, it is
greater for us to discuss an issue thoroughly than to arrive at agreement.
Oftentimes those with understanding different than mine offer opinion that sheds
great light and furthers the avenue I am currently taking. This is not an
intellectual dictatorship, nor even democracy. The free exchange of ideas
cannot be subject to any government but courtesy.
