Dear Dr. Winbery:
It brings me great joy to hear one researcher speak so fondly of another.
Lindsey's theory is known as the Anthology Hypothesis. Basing his premise
on the validity of Papias cited in Eusebius and Irenaeus, he concludes the
Hebrew Matthew was a compliation of original pericopae without order
arrangement. This was translated in Greek. Another Greek translator
restructured the original Hebrew anthology and this was known exclusively to
Luke. Hence, Luke has priority over the other two Synoptics. This thesis
first published in the Hebrew translation of Mark (I believe was c. 1965, no
date is given in the colophon of my copy) and a mature version was published
in Mishkan 17-18 (2/1993) 87-113.
I hope this helps,
Shalom,
John
