There is an entry for PURIZW in Lampe's Patristic Greek Lexicon. Glosses
include: set on fire, be on fire, and be red, fiery. Citations include
Ammonius Alexandrinus, Eusibius Alexandrinus, and Anastasius Sinaita. The
first two are fifth century, the last is eight.

1 Maccabees 1:56 has KAI TA BIBLIA TOU NOMOU hA hEURON, ENEPURISAN EN PURI
KATASCISANTES
"and the books of the law which they found, they burned with fire after
tearing [them] up"
I assume ENEPURISAN, aor. 3rd p. pl. of EMPURIZW, is from EN + PURIZW,
however I can't find PURIZW attested. Does anyone know of this verb other
than in the compound form, EMPURIZW?
