Greetings from the list owner.
Recently a series of innapropriate posts found their way onto B-GREEK.
The people making these post have been asked not to post to B-GREEK again
without petitioning to me. They were not subscribed to list when I checked
today, and I hope that there will not be these problems again.
Please drop the inappropriate threads immediately and resume discussions of
the Greek Testament. <smile>
As a further note. The BIBLE list has undergone some changes recently in
attempts to keep the discussion civil and elevate a voice of reason over
the general discussion. Many have faulted our efforts and many more have
praised them. All in all I as List Owner am very pleased with the changes.
B-GREEK is a different sort of list with a different agenda. Having said
that several people have expressed the interest in having a more active role
taken moderating the list. To that end, I am soliciting volunteers to form
a B-GREEK board of advisors. This board would help me set and police
B-GREEK policies. I do not view this as a large time committement, since
generally the list works just fine all by itself.
Here is my criteria for a B-GREEK board member:
1. Must have been a member of the B-GREEK list for at least three months,
six months prefered. This is so that you have some history with the list
and understand the tones of the discussions and have seen some of the
problems and issues which continually arise.
2. Should be able to call yourself an Evangelical Christian, or be
very sympathetic to Evangelical Christians. There is no assumption of
religious faith on the B-GREEK list. But the list has a lot of evangelical
Christians who come looking for a list to help them study the Greek
testament better. There are scholars who can handle these budding
armchair scholars with grace and encourage them in their endevors and there
are those who cannot. I want only those who can as part of the B-GREEK
board. Those who cannot will benefit from the board's work anyway.
(Hence if you view being on the Board as an opportunity to blast away
all those who post inappropriately, you shouldn't apply) There is no
creedal assumptions I have in mind. And the litmus test toward Evangelicals
is only because they are a majority of the non-Professors on the list.
I would expect the same grace to be applied to other non-scholars.
3. Finally, it would be appropriate for the Board members to be recognized
authorities on the list. This is desired for at least some of the board
members. I realize however that many of those with the most recognition
have the least time.
Having said those general characteristics, here is what the Board would do.
Each of these tasks would probably be given to one board member. So if there
is a task that you would be willing to do. Let me know.
The board would keep the FAQ up to date and post it regularly (monthly?).
The board would develop a policy of what type of posts were inappropriate
and what methodology for handling them will be taken. The board would
also be reponsible to informing and enforcing this policy on the list.
Beyond this there are many different projects, including a web site of some
of the best information to cross the B-GREEK list which lie in the future.
Additionally, one Board member is needed to run the agenda for the Board
by being the chairman of the Board. My role will continue as List Owner,
managing the mechanics of the list, and being ultimately responsible for
the list. I probably should add for legal reasons that unlike other
boards, this board serves at the whim of the List Owner and can be excused
without cause by me. <smile>
Finally B-GREEK Board members can add the line:
B-GREEK Board Member
At the end of their .sig files when posting on the list in order to
increase their fame and glory.
If you are interested in being part of the B-GREEK Board please
drop me an email note. Tell me why you would want this prestigious
position and what areas you could take the responsibility for.
If there are sufficient volunteers we will form such a board. Otherwise
I will assume that the list does not have volunteers who fit my criteria.
At any rate I will thank the many participants who increase the valuable
information which flows on this list,
