
{"id":10281,"date":"2010-05-06T11:18:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-06T19:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/?p=10281"},"modified":"2010-05-06T12:05:58","modified_gmt":"2010-05-06T20:05:58","slug":"estes-hills-goes-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2010\/05\/06\/estes-hills-goes-green\/","title":{"rendered":"Estes Hills goes green"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Estes Hills Elementary School might be celebrating its 50-year anniversary this year \u00e2\u20ac\u201c but even an old school can go fashionably \u00e2\u20ac\u0153green\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in celebrating Earth Day and reviving their Read-A-Thon program. <\/p>\n<p>Approximately 500 Estes Hills students signed paper \u00e2\u20ac\u0153leaf\u00e2\u20ac\u009d pledges to do \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Green Time NOT Screen Time\u00e2\u20ac\u009d during the 2010 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Growing Readers\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Read-A-Thon and school observation of Earth Day (April 22) and National TV Turnoff Week (April 19-23).  Estes Hills students read a total of 150,370 minutes in their first Read-A-Thon in 10 years, far surpassing the school goal of 100,000 minutes.
