Kim Faurot, a research coordinator with the program, said Suarez did everything \u00e2\u20ac\u0153with such dedication and a cheerful attitude.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u00e2\u20ac\u0153She was a really amazing person.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Suarez, a native of Colombia, not only helped set up research studies and monitored data but translated for Spanish-speaking patients as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153She was kind of the heart of the program,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Faurot said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153She was behind the scenes in almost everything that we did.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153She very much believed in integrative medicine and also extending medical services to people that otherwise wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have access.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>When she wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t working, Suarez spent much of her time volunteering. She took a course in diabetes education so that she could teach members of the Latino community about the dangers of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>As part of that teaching, she made meals to demonstrate healthy cooking and proper portion size.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153She was very dedicated to helping Hispanics from all areas,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Faurot said.<\/p>\n<p>Suarez was also very involved with her church, the Chapel of the Cross, and did mission work in Latin American countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We miss her a lot, her intelligence, her dedication,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Faurot said.<\/p>\n<p>She is survived by her son, Juan Arango, who is a student at UNC.<\/p>\n<p>Suarez was the only person who died in the fire.
