
{"id":1157,"date":"2007-10-25T06:35:15","date_gmt":"2007-10-25T14:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/2007\/10\/25\/mcdougle-pta-raises-cash-with-first-ever-fall-festival\/"},"modified":"2007-10-25T06:36:49","modified_gmt":"2007-10-25T14:36:49","slug":"mcdougle-pta-raises-cash-with-first-ever-fall-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2007\/10\/25\/mcdougle-pta-raises-cash-with-first-ever-fall-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"McDougle PTA raises cash with first ever Fall Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Susan Dickson<\/em><br \/>\nStaff Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The McDougle Elementary PTA is trying a little something different to raise money this year, with the first annual McDougle Fall Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The festival \u00e2\u20ac\u201c a fundraiser for the McDougle Elementary PTA \u00e2\u20ac\u201c will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and will offer a wide range of activities to cater to the whole family.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We decided to make it a family-friendly event and a community-building event,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Paige O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Luanaigh, festival coordinator. In past years, the PTA has held a silent auction, which, said O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Luanaigh, was a good moneymaker but didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t involve kids or many members of the community outside of the PTA.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fundraiser includes a silent auction, but that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s only a small piece of the festival, which will feature a cakewalk, face painting, a haunted house, miniature golf, a moon bounce, raffles and more.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a huge event that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s taken a lot of people to put together,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Luanaigh said.<br \/>\nNC Quest Martial Arts and Skipsations will perform at the festival.<\/p>\n<p>For the raffle component, McDougle Elementary students have been selling $1 tickets for the past several weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It allows the kids to go out into the community and do more fundraising that doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t hit just the families of the students,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Luanaigh said.<\/p>\n<p>The student who sells the most tickets wins a $50 Target gift card. Each day at school, teachers announced the winner for the previous day.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153[The kids] are all over it,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Luanaigh said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s been fascinating to watch.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\nRaffle prizes include a Nintendo Wii, an iPod Nano, a $100 Best Buy gift certificate, a bike and set of Harry Potter books.<\/p>\n<p>Those who don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to take their chances at the raffle can bid on silent auction items, which include restaurant gift certificates, golf course green fees and more.<\/p>\n<p>Children who want to participate in a raffle can do so for just 25 cents. PTA members and McDougle classes put together themed baskets full of goodies, which will be given away in the raffle.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153[The festival] gives us a lot of different opportunities to bring in money,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Luanaigh said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Each little piece has been a big piece.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The PTA will also sell 25-cent tickets that can be used to participate in the different carnival games and activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I truly think it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to be very successful,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she said.<\/p>\n<p>So far the students and carnival ticket pre-sales have brought in about $10,000.<\/p>\n<p>Although about half of that will cover event costs, O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Luanaigh expects that costs will decrease for future festivals.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153This is our first year, so we had to create a lot of these games and buy supplies,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The festival will be held Saturday at McDougle Elementary, rain or shine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Susan Dickson Staff Writer The McDougle Elementary PTA is trying a little something different to raise money this year, with the first annual McDougle Fall Festival.
