
{"id":11829,"date":"2010-08-05T09:39:39","date_gmt":"2010-08-05T17:39:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/?p=11829"},"modified":"2010-08-05T09:39:39","modified_gmt":"2010-08-05T17:39:39","slug":"deal-clears-way-for-unc-hospital-in-hillsborough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2010\/08\/05\/deal-clears-way-for-unc-hospital-in-hillsborough\/","title":{"rendered":"Deal clears way for UNC hospital in Hillsborough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Kirk Ross<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Staff Writer<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nCHAPEL HILL  \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Plans for a major new UNC medical center across from the Durham Tech campus in Hillsborough are moving forward now that an agreement has been reached between UNC and Alamance Regional Medical Center.<\/p>\n<p>Alamance Regional officials had appealed the approval of UNC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s application for a Certificate of Need from the state, which put a halt to planning and development for the 83-acre site in the Waterstone development near the intersection of Old N.C. 86 and I-40.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Park, president of UNC Hospitals, said last week that the appeal had been dropped.<\/p>\n<p>UNC plans to build a new medical campus on the site, including a hospital with a Level II emergency department, 68 licensed beds, 15 observation beds and six operating rooms. Construction on outpatient facilities is expected to start within a year. The health care system\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s goal is to open the new hospital in 2015.
