
{"id":1354,"date":"2007-11-29T07:32:17","date_gmt":"2007-11-29T15:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/2007\/11\/29\/elementary-school-construction-faces-obstacles\/"},"modified":"2007-11-29T07:32:17","modified_gmt":"2007-11-29T15:32:17","slug":"elementary-school-construction-faces-obstacles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2007\/11\/29\/elementary-school-construction-faces-obstacles\/","title":{"rendered":"Elementary school construction faces obstacles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/schoolresized.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/schoolresized.jpg\" height=\"194\" width=\"260\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>By Susan Dickson<br \/>\n<\/strong> Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Construction of the new Chapel Hill-Carrboro elementary school could be delayed because a neighboring developer has not yet granted a necessary easement.<\/p>\n<p>The school is under construction on the corner of Dromoland and Eubanks roads.<\/p>\n<p>Orange County officials and M\/I Homes, the developer of the neighboring property, have not reached a cost-sharing agreement for the installation of a sewer line and road access, according to county and school officials.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--> However, county officials have revised the proposed cost-sharing agreement and expect to obtain the easement soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I have no reason to believe otherwise,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Pam Jones, purchasing director for the county. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just a matter of doing the due diligence and making sure everything\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s in line.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Without the easement, construction can continue, but contractors will need the sewer line long before construction is completed.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We have enough work to keep us busy,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said William Mullin, director of facilities maintenance for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.<\/p>\n<p>According to Steve Scroggs, assistant superintendent for support services for the schools, construction is about 28 days behind schedule, with substantial completion expected by June 25. School officials had initially projected substantial completion by May 28.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We are running a little bit behind,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Scroggs said. However: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not in the panic zone yet.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the easement, he added, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I think we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve gotten the attention that we need.
