
{"id":1496,"date":"2007-12-20T07:37:27","date_gmt":"2007-12-20T15:37:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/2007\/12\/20\/land-table-brief-learn-to-farm\/"},"modified":"2007-12-20T07:37:27","modified_gmt":"2007-12-20T15:37:27","slug":"land-table-brief-learn-to-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2007\/12\/20\/land-table-brief-learn-to-farm\/","title":{"rendered":"Land &#038; Table Brief: Learn to farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Orange County Cooperative Extension and the Economic Development Commission are accepting applications for a new program designed to train apprentice farmers in small-scale, sustainable vegetable and fruit production.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00e2\u20ac\u0153People Learning Agriculture Now for Tomorrow\u00e2\u20ac\u009d program will cover the basic how-to\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s of whole-farm planning, marketing, pests, diseases, weeds, planting and harvesting, soils, fertility and crop rotations, building your business plan, record keeping and integrating livestock into your farm.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Once apprentice farmers complete the training, they will submit a business plan and farm enterprise plan to be evaluated by program staff. If the plan is satisfactory, apprentice farmers will be able to tend land in quarter-acre increments at the WC Breeze Family Farm Agricultural Extension and Research Center in Northern Orange County.<br \/>\nThe eight-week program will be held on Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. in Jan. and Feb.
