They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carrboro Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Deborah Lederer-Hughes, visual arts teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Ephesus Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Debbie Hill, primary FOCAL teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Estes Hills Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Lisa Creecy, kindergarten teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Frank Porter Graham Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Kris Fox, art teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Glenwood Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Kathryn Jordan-Pierce, literacy coordinator;<\/li>\n<li>McDougle Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Lisa Oglesby, fifth-grade teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Rashkis Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Christina Royster, fourth-grade teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Mary Scroggs Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Shirley Pyon, third-grade teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Seawell Elementary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Kara Dickerson, second-grade teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Culbreth Middle \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Betsy Spaulding, reading teacher;<\/li>\n<li>McDougle Middle \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Jennifer Sparrow, French and study skills teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Phillips Middle \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Audrey Dawson, video production teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Smith Middle \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Joshua Lucas, FOCAL II teacher;<\/li>\n<li>Chapel Hill High \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Bill Melega, AP world history and honors great American conflicts teacher; and<\/li>\n<li>East Chapel Hill High \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Kathleen Laufer, special services and occupational course of study teacher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Teachers were selected by faculty vote at each school and will be honored May 10 at a reception at the Carolina Inn.<br \/>\n<strong>Former athletes, coach to be inducted in hall of fame<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Four former athletes and one former coach will be inducted into the sixth class of the Chapel<br \/>\nHill High School\/Lincoln High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday.<br \/>\nInductees are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GG Clemmons, who served as Lincoln High\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s varsity basketball coach before becoming dean of students and later assistant principal at Chapel Hill High;<\/li>\n<li>Nate Davis, member of the football, basketball and track teams at Chapel Hill High, who was First Team All-Conference and All-Regional in track from 1967-1969 and most outstanding athlete at Chapel Hill High in 1969;<\/li>\n<li>Derek Kepner, who played varsity soccer at Chapel Hill High for three years and was named First Team All-State and All-American in 1990, before continuing his soccer career at UNC and later at the semi-professional level with the Raleigh Flyers;<\/li>\n<li>Clifford Skakle, who lettered in basketball, tennis and football at Chapel Hill High before receiving a full tennis scholarship to UNC in 1974 and later went on to play in the French Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open as one of the top 250 tennis players in the world; and<\/li>\n<li>Percy Watson, co-captain of Lincoln High\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 1961 state champion football team, who set a school scoring record and went on to play at Elizabeth City State University and later for the Golden Knights team in the New York Football Conference, where he was selected as most valuable player in 1971.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The induction ceremony will be held Saturday evening in the Chapel Hill High cafeteria.<br \/>\nFor more information or to purchase tickets for $20, contact Chapel Hill High athletic director Ronnie Hayes at 929-2106, ext. 2108.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools select teachers of the year Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools have selected their teachers of the year for 2007-08.
