
{"id":20127,"date":"2011-08-04T08:45:20","date_gmt":"2011-08-04T12:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/?p=20127"},"modified":"2011-08-04T11:36:11","modified_gmt":"2011-08-04T15:36:11","slug":"a-southern-season-sold-to-local-capital-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2011\/08\/04\/a-southern-season-sold-to-local-capital-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"A Southern Season sold to local capital fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>CHAPEL HILL<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Having grown from an 800-square-foot store and a staff of one in December 1975 to 60,000 square feet and more than 300 employees, A Southern Season certainly has seen some changes.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0A new chapter now begins, with the announcement that TC Capital Fund, headed by Chapel Hill entrepreneur Clay Hamner, has bought the company.<br \/>\n \u00e2\u20ac\u0153For most of A Southern Season\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s history, Clay has been a loyal customer and supporter of the philosophy and values of what we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re all about,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said founder Michael Barefoot. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153As the company experienced the economic downturn in early 2009, like other businesses did, Hamner initiated discussions about helping the company grow.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\nBarefoot will continue to play an active role in the business, as will longtime partners Tim Manale and Briggs Wesche.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I will be fully engaged at A Southern Season for the next five years,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Barefoot said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153after which I plan to reduce my involvement to pursue other challenges and interests.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\nTC Capital Fund is a joint venture between two Chapel Hill-based investment funds: Carrboro Capital Corporation and Tryon Capital Ventures LLC.<br \/>\nThe founders of Carrboro Capital are Chapel Hill residents Hamner, Betty Kenan and Phil Phillips; the founders of Tryon Capital are Pete Coker and Peter Reichard.<br \/>\nThe company also announced that Larry Shaw has been brought on board as president.
