
{"id":23225,"date":"2012-02-02T10:02:51","date_gmt":"2012-02-02T15:02:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/?p=23225"},"modified":"2012-02-01T16:23:07","modified_gmt":"2012-02-01T21:23:07","slug":"letter-wealth-and-greed-related-not-synonymous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2012\/02\/02\/letter-wealth-and-greed-related-not-synonymous\/","title":{"rendered":"LETTER: Wealth and greed related, not synonymous."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Relevant definitions of wealth:<br \/>\n1. rich or valuable contents or produce: the wealth of the soil<br \/>\n2. the state of being rich; prosperity; affluence: persons of wealth and standing\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nGreed\/Greedy<br \/>\n1. excessively or inordinately desirous of wealth, profit, etc.; avaricious: the greedy owners of the company<br \/>\nThe\u00c2\u00a0democratic principle for balance of power dictates the construct of capitalism\u00c2\u00a0must generously replenish the soil from which wealth comes from.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0Our\u00c2\u00a0existing vulnerable environment is the result of:<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Wall Street and banks who apply deceit and support self regulation;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 a\u00c2\u00a0Supreme Court that can alter\u00c2\u00a0an\u00c2\u00a0election;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 the manipulation and influence of politicians resulting in their failure to represent\u00c2\u00a0the people; and<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 the manipulation of a sustainable tax code to benefit the 2 percent.<br \/>\nAn economy is only durable if it is protected from abuse. Powerful investors and financial institutions sidestepped loosened regulations to manipulate control in their favor, to the detriment of the national and global economy. This is why we should\u00c2\u00a0establish enforceable regulation, which higher taxes on the wealthy would pay for. Self-monitoring\u00c2\u00a0will always be\u00c2\u00a0fallible.<br \/>\nObama admits Congress is broken. He and others have been trying to fix it. There is little to no\u00c2\u00a0cooperation by a Congress influenced by Robber Barons. These people are not patriots, they are traitors (intentional or not). The 98 percent are in this together, both conservative and liberals.\u00c2\u00a0These ideologies should complement one another, not polarize. Polarization&#8217;s symptoms are a lack of compassion, empathy, fairness and creativity\u00c2\u00a0of conservatives and liberals.<br \/>\nThe disease of greed must be\u00c2\u00a0aggressively treated, especially in the 2 percent who control the economy, society and the environment. It is\u00c2\u00a0destroying it and themselves.<br \/>\nWe need\u00c2\u00a0a\u00c2\u00a0lynch mob with a rope of votes. The people have the capacity to change this situation, but there needs to be\u00c2\u00a0an extreme response from the public, sufficient to change the rule of law to\u00c2\u00a0prevent inappropriate, unethical lobbying,\u00c2\u00a0filibustering and the politicizing of the Supreme Court. Conservatives and liberals must unite with a goal to protect wealth from greed.\u00c2\u00a0Our abundance is threatened by the hoarding of wealth.
