Photo by Lucy Butcher.\"\/><\/a><strong><em>by Susan Dickson<\/em><\/strong><em><br \/>\nStaff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This weekend, the Town Commons will be packed with activity, kicking off with a concert sponsored by the Barack Obama presidential campaign on Friday afternoon and closing with the 13th annual Carrboro Day on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Change Rocks\u00e2\u20ac\u009d concert, featuring Arcade Fire and Superchunk, is intended to encourage one-stop early voting and is conveniently located next to Carrboro Town Hall, an early-voting site.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The Obama campaign distributed about 4,000 free concert tickets throughout the Triangle. According to Anita Jones-McNair, director of Carrboro Recreation and Parks, individuals will be required to present a ticket to enter the commons, which will be roped off for the event.<\/p>\n<p>Space is limited and admission will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.<\/p>\n<p>Gates will open at 1 p.m. and the concert will start at 2 p.m. Parking is extremely limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We are strongly recommending that people either walk or bicycle, or even take public transportation to the site,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Jones-McNair said.<\/p>\n<p>Given that the concert will occur during business hours, Jones-McNair said staff will position the stage to minimize noise disturbance. According to Captain J.G. Booker of the Carrboro Police Department, extra officers will be on duty to ensure that everything runs smoothly throughout the concert and rally.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the concert, call 929-3460.<\/p>\n<p><strong>30th Anniversary Farmers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Market<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Carrboro Farmers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Market will celebrate its 30th season on Saturday during regular market hours, 7 a.m. to noon, at the Town Commons.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the market, buyers will be able to fill out an anniversary drawing entry form each time they make a purchase. Prizes, which have been donated by local businesses, include gift certificates to Lantern, Crook\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Corner, Acme, Moshi Moshi and more.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, local bakers will provide an \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Anniversary Taste Treat\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the gazebo. This year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s theme, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Celebrating a Sustainable Community,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d will be apparent throughout the event: For the first time, Carrboro Day will be trash-free.<\/p>\n<p>As with other weekend events, participants are encouraged to walk or bike to downtown, as parking will be limited.<\/p>\n<p>Events include all-day musical performances, a poetry roundtable and much more.
