Murrie, who is ending his eight-year stint as head of oenology at A Southern Season this month, brings a wealth of experience along with a lot of first-hand knowledge of the small, eclectic wineries 3CUPS features. The plan is to grow the list from 40 to more than 200 labels. To paraphrase co-founder Lex Alexander, 3CUPS is changing from a coffee shop with wine to a wine, coffee and tea merchant. 3cups.net

Grillin’ fish
What’s the best grilling fish? In The Eater’s book, it’s got to be red snapper or its cousin, the vermillion snapper, which stays moist, holds up real nicely on the grill and doesn’t require one of those fish-shaped grilling contraptions. Tom Robinson recommends them for the grill and usually has a good supply fresh from the coast. Or you can obtain them yourself, as the Barbecue Joint’s Damon Lapas recently did via an overnight foray to the Gulf Stream and back. Judging from the photos he recently shared with us, it was an awesome day on the water.

Sub deal
H-T Deals: Close, cheap, fairly good — that’s the description we’ve heard from regular patrons of the $2.49 sub deals at the Carr Mill Mall Harris-Teeter deli.
