Gibbons, who defeated the Jaguars 51-8 a year ago, will look to make it two years straight, as the Jags try for their first win of the season. Gibbons lost their season opener to Pinecrest, 20-14.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153If everyone just does what they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re told and does their part on the field by being ready to play, then I got a feeling things will go a lot better for us \u00e2\u20ac\u201c because they seem like they do each time we play another game. We keep getting closer to a win.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201c senior defensive end Brandon Hunter<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Basically, we practice the way we play; so if we have a good week of practice, we should turn in a win Friday. I think we can pull a win out. We have to do the right things during the week so when Friday comes, nobody has second thoughts about anything and everybody knows what has got to be done.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201c senior running back David Brooks.<br \/>\nThursday, Sept. 4, Chapel Hill at Smithfield-Selma, 7:30 p.m.  <\/p>\n<p>The Chapel Hill Tigers travel to Smithfield Selma Friday night for a rematch of last year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s NCHSAA 4A third-round match-up. Chapel Hill, which had last week off, won their season opener over Cedar Ridge, 21-10, on August 22, while Smithfield-Selma is 1-1, with the win coming over Triton, 27-0, on opening week and the loss coming this past week to Nash Central, 28-20. We improved by 10 strokes in our second match from our first match so I believe we will keep improving match by match\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201c senior Carrboro captain Julia Holt<br \/>\nSept. 9, Chapel Hill at Walter Williams, 3:30 p.m. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Cross Country<\/strong><br \/>\nSept. 6, Chapel Hill at Durham Academy Invitational<br \/>\nSept. 9, Carrboro at Northwood with Durham School of the Arts, 4:30 p.m.<br \/>\nSept. 9,  Chapel Hill at Person (conference race) <\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Tennis<\/strong><br \/>\nSept. 8, Carrboro vs. Cedar Ridge, 5:00 p.m.<br \/>\nSept. 9, Chapel Hill at Jordan, 4:00 p.m.  (conference)<br \/>\nSept. 10, Carrboro vs. Cardinal Gibbons, 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Even without their top two players from a year ago in Julia Holt and Lauren Flewelling, the Carrboro Jaguars girl\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s tennis team opened their 2008 campaign with a 2-0 start, just as they did a year ago. The team still has seven returning players from the 2007 squad, including #2 junior Lindsay Kornegay. Kornegay knows that even though the team is 2-0 overall, the conference matches this week will be completely different than the ones up to this point. <\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We expect it to be a very tough match against Cardinal Gibbons,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Kornegay said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153They are a very experienced team and always are one of the top teams in the state.
