After groups like Pop the Cap lobbied for beverage options other than Bud, Miller and the like, state lawmakers lifted the ban in 2005.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nSince then, different types of beers have trickled into the area, challenging beer aficionados to try every type of brew they can get their hands on. <\/p>\n<p>The Carrboro Beverage Company \u00e2\u20ac\u201c also known as Tyler\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Bottle Shop \u00e2\u20ac\u201c opened a little more than five weeks ago on Main Street next to its parent company, Tyler\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Taproom, bringing hundreds of different kinds of beers to Carrboro, just in time for beer season.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Huntington, owner of Carrboro Beverage Company and Tyler\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s, said he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always been interested in beer, having worked in breweries on the West Coast. He started Tyler\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 10 years ago with a focus on beer, but \u00e2\u20ac\u0153couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t fill 16 handles with craft beers.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>These days, Huntington and his staff have to pick and choose beers to limit the store\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s selection to just a few hundred.<\/p>\n<p>Shoppers can buy six-packs, singles, 22-ounce beers, mixed six-packs and growlers. The store even has a few rotating beers on draft that are sold in eight ounce portions. <\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not really trying to be a bar or anything,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Huntington said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I just think it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a fun shopping experience.\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 It gives people a chance to try something.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\nRight now, the store is stocked with tons of oktoberfests, pumpkin ales and other seasonal brews that arrive as the weather gets colder. <\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The next four to six months are really the best time for beer,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Huntington said, adding that the store is putting together some mixed six-packs of seasonal beers so shoppers can compare different brewers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 takes on seasonal brew. <\/p>\n<p>Besides seasonal beers, the Carrboro Beverage Company boasts a selection that includes beers from not only across the U.S. but from Belgium, Germany, England, Scotland, China, France, Canada and more. <\/p>\n<p>Beers offered range from Guinness and Spaten Oktoberfest to North Coast Brother Thelonious and McEwan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Scotch Ale. The store also sells a selection of North Carolina microbrews, including those from Duck-Rabbit, Big Boss, Carolina Brewing Company, Highland, French Broad and Carolina Brewery. <\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s anywhere in Chapel Hill or Carrboro that has the selection we do,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Huntington said. <\/p>\n<p>In addition to beer, Carrboro Beverage Company carries a small selection of affordably-priced wines, with most bottles under $11, as well as specialty sodas, beer glassware and brewery merchandise.  <\/p>\n<p>The store also hosts a free beer tasting every week, when a representative from a brewery brings a variety of selections to share with shoppers. <\/p>\n<p>Huntington said he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s been surprised by how well received the Carrboro Beverage Company has been.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s done better than we thought it would,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153This was really just a project I kind of wanted to do for fun.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n<p>Huntington attributes the success thus far in large part to his knowledgeable staff.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153All the folks working here are really into beer,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve gotten really, really lucky with the guys that have come in to work.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n<p>In addition, Huntington said the growing interest in different types of beer hasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t hurt:<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s becoming more and more popular here.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n<p>The Carrboro Beverage Company is open Monday through Saturday, from noon to 10 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 8 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3519","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-miscellany"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3519","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/12"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3519"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3519\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3519"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3519"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3519"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
