
{"id":3804,"date":"2008-11-06T07:13:42","date_gmt":"2008-11-06T15:13:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/?p=3804"},"modified":"2008-11-06T07:13:42","modified_gmt":"2008-11-06T15:13:42","slug":"the-hope-of-a-better-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2008\/11\/06\/the-hope-of-a-better-day\/","title":{"rendered":"The hope of a better day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Editor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s note: The following words were delivered in Chicago\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Grant Park by Barack Obama at the opening of his victory speech Nov. 4, 2008.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hello Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nIt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen, by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different, that their voices could be that difference.<\/p>\n<p>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled.
