
{"id":7555,"date":"2009-10-22T04:09:37","date_gmt":"2009-10-22T12:09:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/?p=7555"},"modified":"2009-10-22T04:09:37","modified_gmt":"2009-10-22T12:09:37","slug":"kille-plans-to-appeal-conviction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2009\/10\/22\/kille-plans-to-appeal-conviction\/","title":{"rendered":"Kille plans to appeal conviction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Beth Mechum<br \/>\nStaff Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Marilyn Kille said she is going to appeal her Sept. 14 misdemeanor forgery conviction in the court case between her and the Town of Carrboro. <\/p>\n<p>In a press conference Tuesday, she said she has new affidavits from contractors that vindicate her in both the forgery case and in her long-running civil case with the town over an apartment  on her property on Fayetteville Road.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mayor Mark Chilton said Tuesday he didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t understand what Kille\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s goal was in appealing the forgery case.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153My understanding is that she admitted to all the essential elements of the crime,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not sure what there is to appeal.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n<p>Kille has a resident living in the apartment that triggered the dispute; but, due to a settlement she signed, he will leave at the end of this month.<\/p>\n<p>The resident, Chris Higginbotham, a student in the graduate program at the UNC School of Journalism, spoke at the board of aldermen meeting Tuesday night, asking the board to allow him to stay until December, when he will be graduating, saying that he was innocent in all of this.<\/p>\n<p>Chilton said that though he was sympathetic to Higginbotham\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s situation, the board did not think it appropriate to grant Kille any more extensions.<\/p>\n<p>Kille signed an agreement with the town last month requiring her to not rent out the apartment and make her property available for inspections. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Beth Mechum Staff Writer Marilyn Kille said she is going to appeal her Sept. 14 misdemeanor forgery conviction in the court case between her and the Town of Carrboro.
