She will now represent the district in regional and state competition.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Bivins has been principal of Carrboro Elementary since 2006. Prior to being named principal of Carrboro Elementary, Bivins served as the school\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s assistant principal. She also served as coordinator of elementary education for Cherokee County Schools, director of elementary instruction and staff development for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and as a classroom teacher at Estes Hills Elementary, McDougle Elementary and Alexander Wilson Elementary in Graham.<\/p>\n<p>Bivins holds a bachelor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s degree in education from Wake Forest University, a master\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s of arts degree in elementary education from Elon College, a doctorate of education in curriculum and instruction from UNC and a master\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s degree in school administration from UNC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Emily Bivins of Carrboro Elementary has been named the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Principal of the Year for 2009-2010.
